ORAL CANCER: MOUTH CANCER, GUM AND LANGUAGE TREATMENT
Oral cancer usually occurs in the lower part of the lips, as well as on the sides of the mouth, in the back of the throat, on the palate, in the tonsils or in the salivary glands, although two of its most frequent manifestations they are tongue cancer and gum cancer.
CAUSES OF ORAL CANCER
The affected means of oral cancer are men older than 40 years who are addicted to tobacco and alcohol in excess, although as in other pathologies, the profile of the patient may vary. Other causes of oral cancer are chronic irritations caused by dentures or fillings, infection with human papillomavirus (HPV), medications that weaken the immune system or deficit of proper oral hygiene.
Late detection of mouth cancer may involve surgery, radiant therapy, and, in the worst cases, chemotherapy. Therefore, your early diagnosis of oral cancer is fundamental to the success of the treatment.
SYMPTOMS OF ORAL CANCER
The symptoms of oral cancer are physically manifest and can be recognized by the patient in the form of:
A pale, dark or pigmented sore in the mouth that does not heal in a long time: the most frequent symptom.
Pain in the mouth or throat that does not go away and makes it difficult to chew or swallow.
A lump or abnormal swelling of the cheek or neck.
A white or red area over the gums, tongue, tonsils or lining of the mouth.
Difficulty moving the jaw or tongue.
Numbness of the tongue or other area of the mouth.
Swelling of the jaw that causes the dentures do not adapt properly or feel uncomfortable.
Loosening of the teeth or pain around the teeth or in the jaw.
Changes in the voice
Weightloss.
Constant fetid breath.
The wounds may initially be superficial and painless, although they may later develop burning or pain as the tumor progresses. It should be borne in mind that many of these signs may be cause for other ailments other than cancer, or even for other types of cancer. Even so, it is very important to consult with our dentists in Madrid if the patient observes these conditions for more than two weeks and we will perform a biopsy, X-rays and other tests to determine if we have a case of oral cancer.
TREATMENT OF THE BUCCAL CANCER
Surgical removal of the tumor is usually recommended if it is not very large. This intervention may be accompanied by radiation therapy and chemotherapy if the case is more serious. If the cancer has affected speech, other treatments may include speech therapy and other therapies or support groups to improve mouth movement, chewing, speech and swallowing.
The importance of detecting oral cancer on time lies in the patient's decision to visit a dental expert for his cure. According to statistics, if the oral cancer spreads before it has affected other oral tissues, the cure rate is 90%. More than half of cancers have already spread when they are detected, so it is important to stop them in time with a simple visit to the dentist. From Denty Dent we want to make our patients aware so they do not leave aside issues that may be life or death and start as soon as possible to change their oral habits and remedy this disease.
