Breast cancer treatment has improved over time and today the woman can count on different treatment possibilities and more chances of survival. Taking into account the fact that the disease can occur in different forms, personalization of care is the most challenging challenge in the treatment of this cancer.
The choice of therapy depends on several factors, including the histological and biological characteristics of the tumor and the characteristics of the patient (for example, age and presence of other diseases), which can influence the clinical history of the disease and the response to therapy.

 Therapeutic strategies consist of loco-regional treatments (surgery and radiotherapy) and
  adjuvant therapies (chemotherapy, hormone therapy, molecular target therapy) to be implemented after the surgery in order to complete the main treatment that is surgery. The choice of adjuvant therapy most indicated in the individual case depends on the profile of the tumor and therefore on the individual risk that the tumor reappears or that metastases develop. Thanks to the optimal integration of these therapeutic modalities in the last thirty years there has been a noticeable improvement in patient survival.

 A team composed of various specialists (a surgeon specializing in breast cancer surgery, an oncologist, a radiation therapist, a radiologist, a pathologist, a nurse specializing in the treatment of cancer patients, a nutritionist, a dietician, a physiotherapist and a psychologist ) develop the treatment plan taking into account various factors such as age, general conditions and the profile of the tumor.  Before proceeding with any treatment, the doctor is required to explain in detail the purpose, methods and possible consequences; therefore, after having illustrated the type and duration of the recommended treatment, advantages and disadvantages, any available therapeutic alternatives, risks or significant side effects, you have a consent form signed, with which you authorize the healthcare personnel to implement all the necessary procedures. No treatment can be implemented without your consent.
